Building a Raised Garden Bed with Corrugated Metal Panels
To begin the project, we used nine corrugated metal panels, each measuring 8 feet in length. Since shorter sections were required for the ends of the bed, three of these panels were cut in half to produce 4-foot pieces. The metal sheets were placed on scrap lumber to lift them off the ground, allowing safe and stable cutting. A reciprocating saw was used for the task, and each cut was carefully measured and marked with a Sharpie.
Having a second person available during cutting was incredibly helpful, as they helped stabilize the panels and minimize vibration caused by the saw. This teamwork made the cutting process much smoother and more efficient.
The edges of the cut panels were quite sharp. Redwood 2×4s were used on the corners to cover any rough cuts, helping to improve safety and provide a cleaner finished look.

Before driving screws into the wood, always pre-dril holes to prevent splitting. This step is essential, as a cracked 2-foot board can be frustrating to replace once other parts are installed. To speed up the process, it’s useful to have two drills—one for drilling pilot holes and the other for inserting screws.

Each corner was secured with three screws. I used Torx/star-head screws because they offer several advantages over standard Phillips-head screws. They reduce the likelihood of slipping or stripping the screw, especially under high torque, and provide a more reliable and consistent fastening experience.
